Klipspringer - revisited

Our species of the month is the Klipspringer (Oreotragus oreotragus)

This tiny antelope is one of the smallest species we find at Ingwelala, and part of the group we call “Dwarf” antelopes. This also includes Steenbok, Sharpe’s Grysbok, Oribi, Duiker, Suni and 7 others.

With a name literally meaning “rock jumper/leaper”, we find these gorgeous little mammals jumping around on the rocks at the causeway in camp. Klipspringers are notorious for their skills when it comes to conquering rocky terrain, being highly specialised creatures that feature rough coats made up of hollow hairs as an added layer of protection against accidental rocky mishaps!

Look out for the new addition to the Ingwelala Klipspringer family - what a treat to have an uncommon antelope calling our camp home!
